What happens when schedules overlap?

An employee can only have one applicable assignment at a time. When a new assignment overlaps an existing approved one:

• If the existing one started earlier, it is truncated — its end date becomes the day before your new start date.
• If the existing one starts on or after your new start date, it is cancelled entirely.

The result message flags these with "superseded prior schedule". You never need to manually close an old assignment before making a new one.
