Why are some survey numbers missing?

Last reviewed · Part of Surveys and employee listening

This is the part most worth understanding, because the module will deliberately refuse to show you things.

Two kinds of hiding, and they look different on purpose

What you see Why
"Hidden — fewer than 5 respondents" That group is below the score threshold. Showing it would expose a handful of people.
"Hidden — to protect a smaller group" That group is big enough on its own, but it is being hidden because otherwise the small group could be recovered by subtraction.

The second one surprises people, so it's worth spelling out. Suppose the company total is 20 respondents, Department A has 4 (hidden) and Department B has 16 (shown). Publishing B alongside the total hands you A's four answers exactly — 20 minus 16. Hiding A alone is not suppression once any breakdown exists. So the system hides a complementary group as well, and says so.

A suppressed cell is never rendered blank or as zero. A blank reads as "nothing to see here" and a zero reads as "terrible score" — both are wrong and both are misleading. Every hidden value states its reason.

Suppression applies identically on screen and in exports. There is no view, no report and no download that bypasses it — it is a single code path that every result travels through.
