How do I read Leave Balance & Liability?
How much paid leave does the company currently owe employees — in days and in money — and who needs attention?

Who it's for: HR/payroll managers, department heads reviewing team exposure, finance reviewing payout liability.
KPI tiles
- Annual Balance — total remaining annual-leave days across all employees.
- Avg Annual Balance — average annual-leave days per employee holding any.
- At Risk — employees with a negative balance (below zero) on a leave type that accrues, such as Annual Leave (down is good). Event-granted types that never accrue (sick, maternity, paternity, study) are not counted. Hover the tile for the same explanation.
- Est. Liability — estimated cash payable for positive balances, all leave types.
- Annual Accrued YTD — annual-leave days accrued so far this year.
Charts & tables (by tab)
- Overview — Annual Leave Balance Bridge waterfall (Opening → Accrued → Used → Adjustments → Current, days); Balance by Leave Type; Balance by Department (click to drill); Balance Distribution (bands: negative / 0 / 0–5 / 5–15 / 15–30 / 30+).
- Employees — every employee/leave-type row (Accrued, Used, Adjustment, Balance, Liability), lowest balance first; searchable/exportable.
- Liability — Liability by Department (bar); by Leave Type (doughnut); Top 20 Liability Employees.
- Attention — Negative/Zero balance; Exhaustion Risk (< 3 days); High Balance (> 30 days, carry-over/forfeiture risk).
Filters & controls
- Period picker (year + month — a point-in-time snapshot as of end of month, or today for the current month) + Group / Location / Department. No year-over-year trend — everything recomputes as of the chosen period.
How to read it
- The four day-denominated headline KPIs and the Bridge cover annual leave only — other types still appear in the by-type / department / distribution charts.
- Liability figures span every leave type. At Risk counts only leave types that accrue, and the Executive Summary's over-drawn leave count uses the same rule.
- Liability counts positive balances owed to employees (floored at zero); over-drawn balances are tracked separately as Recoverable — the two are never netted.
- Balances reflect only employees employed as of the selected month (see the roster note under the alerts).
